POV: All You Need Is Blush This Summer

In the summertime, we tend to spend more time outside which means that we want our
makeup looks to last equally as long right? That being said, we want to provide some
options to those who prefer an airy, minimal makeup look and especially for those jam-
packed days or humid summer nights.

Blush may have been presumed to be solely for special occasions to add extra glam, but it
has gradually made its way into many people’s everyday make-up routines. This is for its
ability to provide a healthy glow and dimension to an otherwise ‘simple’ look. Traditionally,
blush would be applied only across the apples of the cheeks, to give the wearer a “flushed”
look but that is no longer the case. Blush placement, done correctly, can effortlessly snatch
or enhance certain facial features. We suggest using a medium-sized tapered brush to apply
it to the very tip of your nose, outer eyelids or (a personal favourite) on your temples.
Here is a selection of some of our favourite blushes:
Cream Blush:
If you are someone who prefers more of a “barely-there” look then we suggest purchasing a
cream blush like ‘E.l.f Cosmetics Putty Blush’. The texture usually provides a dewy look once
placed on the skin. People tend to say cream blushes shouldn’t be used by those with oily
skin but we disagree, with a great mattifying powder, this can prevent your blush from
melting off in the summer heat. However, this particular blush transforms to a semi-matte once
applied to the skin. It is also infused with Argan Oil and Vitamin E for added hydration.
Tik-Tok hack: Try applying the blush underneath your foundation, this can help give you that
natural pop of colour that you may be after.
Powder Blush:
The beauty of powder blushes is that they are highly pigmented and buildable. They also
tend to have better longevity and allow for more control with precise placement. For a
seamless and skin-like finish, we have to plug our bestselling ‘KEM Powder Blush’. It’s
available in seven shades so you are bound to find one to suit your complexion. We
recommend pairing an orange and a pink-toned blush for the ultimate peach tone. This can
be achieved with our Powder Blush shades ‘Saffron’ and ‘Mali’. If you are hesitant to try powdered blush due to experiencing patchiness, Pro Makeup Artist Jaleesa Jaikaran recommends
applying a thin layer of loose or pressed powder prior to applying your blush.
Liquid Blush:
Often left out of the big Cream-versus-Powder debate, liquid blush is an underrated
champion. If you are after a more intense blush look with quick application then it’s time to
switch to a liquid blush. The ‘Made By Mitchell Liquid Blusher’ comes in plenty of shades and
even doubles as a liquid lip product. A little goes a long way with this type of product as the
pigment is intense.
