The KB Team On How We Unwind

Since outside has opened up again post lockdown, it’s safe to say most of us have been on the go non-stop. Whether this looks like meeting up with friends for the first time in what feels like forever, going back into the office or simply engaging in some much needed retail therapy shopping trips (if only our bank accounts could speak, yikes!), it is clear our lives have become more active than they have been in the past year. This being said, we’re showing you some of our favourite ways to wind down.

We asked the KB Team some questions about self-care and winding down, how they like to do it, when etc, and these were our responses:

What days do you usually find yourself intentionally unwinding?

Philippa:

“Friday’s are definitely unwinding days after a long week!

Kemi:

“Most days, probably four times a week minimum”

Aanu:

“Saturday and Sunday I usually unwind”

Olivia:

“Friday and Sunday nights”

Lois:

“Usually Mondays, Fridays and Sundays”

What does unwinding look like to you?

Philippa:

“It usually consists of me cleaning my room, lighting a candle, putting on a true-crime documentary and a face mask!”

Kemi:

“Tidying the house, hoovering, incense, candles, having a candlelit shower doing my full body care routine and laying down doing nothing.”

Aanu:

“I like journaling, going to church and meeting up with friends.”

Olivia:

“Napping, catching up on my shows with snacks (very important!), online shopping, masking and just zoning out off my phone”

Lois:

“I’ll usually tidy my bedroom then do my body care routine in the shower and an intensive facial routine, then read a book, journal or watch a documentary with some Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough ice-cream.”

What do you like to watch/ listen to when you’re winding down?

Philippa:

I like to watch any good Netflix series or listen to some old-school R’n’B”

Kemi:

I like to listen to some Reggae, Bible scriptures or some rainforest sounds on Youtube”

Aanu:

“I listen to my favourite podcast and watch movies”

Olivia:

“The Receipts Podcast, old albums with gentle vibes (Ed Sheeran, Summer Walker, Lauryn Hill etc)

Lois:

“ I find myself usually listening to nothing. I like unwinding in silence because it’s usually my time to think and reflect.”

Is this ritual more of a necessity or a luxury for you?

Philippa:

“Definitely a necessity! It helps to keep me sane!

Kemi:

“It’s a necessity. It’s for sure a part of my routine”

Aanu:

“I’d say more of a necessity for me. Having time to myself is an important part of my life and keeps me grounded”

Olivia:

“Necessity! I can’t function without some “me” time.

Lois:

“It’s a necessity for sure. Becoming intentional with my time spent alone is one of the best decisions I made for myself.”

Based on the responses of the team, it’s clear that unwinding is truly a necessity! However you rest and recuperate during the week, it is true that taking time out of your busy schedule a couple, or several, times during the week helps to settle your mind, body and spirit. Here at KB we’re all for prioritising feeling grounded and stable and doing so intentionally. This is manifested through the products we formulate that serve as tools to help you do this, whether it be a Clay mask whilst you journal or catch up on your favourite shows, or The Body Collection which helps you take care of your temple from the inside out. Why not try to discover ways in which you can unwind with intention this week, and reflect on how best you can reset so you can show up as your best self.
