5 Blushes You Need To Try This Season

Blush is arguable the one product that ties a makeup look together. Whether it be a subtle pale pink or a rich deep hue, blusher can make any makeup look well put together and alive. We appreciate a good flush of colour on the face but before makeup became as widely accessible as it is now, blusher was a product that many people of colour shied away from. We noticed this when we launched our blush products last year. Luckily, gone are the days of only having the option of deep hot pinks or very cool-toned blushes – the bar for- deep skin friendly blushes has since been set and is only getting higher. Here are our top personal faves for blushes here at KB:

Made By Mitchell “Blursh Liquid blusher” in “Posy Rosey”

Described as “A raspberry pink”, Posy Rosey debunks the idea that dainty pinks aren’t wearable for people of a deeper skin tone. Liquid blushes are all the rage now, especially with underpainting becoming more and more popular. This blush is buildable, so you can opt for a subtle, everyday sweet girl-next-door look and apply it to the apples of your cheeks, or a more dramatic glam look and  take it up higher to the cheekbones.

Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush in “Daiquiri Dip”

Fenty did exactly what needed to be done with the shade range (as they do!)  for their Cream Blush collection. We love a blush that is deep and daring, and we think Daiquiri Dip is just that. Perfect for  a really deep-toned person, this blush adds just the right depth of colour, giving that perfect colour pay off that is sometimes difficult to execute on darker skin when it comes to blushers. Its cream formula gives it an easy glide and a skin-like finish. A winner!

Nars Taj Mahal

A cult-favourite. We can’t talk about WOC-friendly blushes without mentioning at least one OJ and Taj Mahal is definitely part of that number. A warm orange with some shimmer tones, Taj Mahal gives that holiday sun-kissed glow that we love. Apply to the high points of your cheekbones so this blush can double up as bronze too. A staple for a reason.

Kem Beauty Powder Blush in Saffron

Sometimes finding a blush with the perfect amount of orange and pink that can still show up nicely on deep skin can be tricky. This is why we love Saffron. Described as “a burnt terracotta shade, midway between tan orange and pink perfect for all skin tones” Saffron is definitely one that comes with you on holiday. It’s non-chalky texture and buildable formula means it can be used with or without a full face of makeup for the days where you want minimum effort with maximum results. We love Saffron and we believe she is a keeper!

Glossier Cloud Paint in Storm

Boasting of being “the most user-friendly blush under the sun”, Glossier’s “Cloud Paint” gives the imagery of easy finger-application and soft, sheer coverage. For the girls who love these features in a blush, we’re sure you’ll love it. “Storm” is a deep burgundy with an almost brown undertone. Its gel-creme texture means it feels just like skin, so apply “Storm” for a nice flush in the daytime.

Honorary Mention:

Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish: Divine Blush in Paradise Venus

A much-anticipated beauty product that is no less than a showstopper. We can always trust Pat McGrath Labs to deliver luxury and opulence. With 9 rich and diverse shades, Pat McGrath captured deep magentas, sultry deep reds and powdery pinks with gold with champagne hues. Paradise Venus is described as a Terracotta Demi-Matte that is buildable yet has an immense colour payoff. Pat McGrath describes her blushes to be “instantly indispensable” and we can’t say that we disagree!
